What is The Central Committee

Why Do We Care?

Had any of you heard of the Central Committee (CC) until today?

If they represent us here in Preble County, why do the voters not know who they are and what they are about?

There is a disconnect of accountability, transparency, and voter education.

- What is the CC?

A 43 member representative body comprised of the 43 voting precincts in Preble County.

Preble County is divided into 43 geographical locations with a representative for each one of the political parties (Republican/ Democrat).

- PSN direction

We are directly concerned with the Republican Central Committee (RCC) because the political party of the elected officials in the county are the controlling central committee body. Freedom is a trademark of this country and the Republican party's principles reflect our beliefs.

- Purpose and Duties

To establish the policies of the Republican Party and to further the cause of the party’s politics in Preble County by securing the administration and government in accordance with the principals of the Republican Party (Art. 1 sec. 1-2).

- Republican Party Principals (Ohio GOP)

  •  Grow the economy
  • Shrink government
  • Protect our freedoms

- Meetings

Regular meetings discussing the internal business of the RCC are not to be held in a public forum.

Meetings to fill a vacancy in public office are to be held publicly.

- Committees inside the Committee

The RCC oversees two separate committees.

The Bylaws Committee- Responsible for writing and amending the bylaws of the RCC.

The Steering Committee- Responsible for assigning members and duties to the various committees (Art. 11 sec. 2).

No committee may make public any formal action, resolution, or policy without the approval of the RCC.

- Specific duties and responsibilities

  1. Appointments- If a vacancy occurs in the office of County Commissioner, Prosecuting Attorney, County Auditor, County Treasurer, Clerk of the Court of Common Pleas, Sheriff, County Recorder, County Engineer, or Coroner, the County Central Committee of the Political Party with which the last occupant of the office was affiliated shall meet to appoint a person to hold the office until a successor is elected (Art. 12 sec. 1).
  2. The RCC may make recommendations for filling vacancies in state, federal, local, and statewide judicial offices (Art. 12 sec 2).
  3. The RCC may file recommendations to the Board of Elections (BOE) of qualified electors to the Secretary of State for BOE vacancies (Art. 12 sec. 3).

- Endorsements and Nominations

The RCC may make endorsements of issues & policies governing the County and abroad.

The RCC may make nominations and endorsements of candidates running for office in Preble County and abroad (Art. 13).
